PCB Announces Pakistan Captain For ICC World Cup 2011

PCB announces Shahid Afridi will lead the Pakistan team in World Cup 2011. The decision has ended weeks of hesitation over the captaincy issue between Misbah and Afridi.

Pakistan is the only team who has not named their captain, when the squad was announced. There has been a lot discussion over the captaincy issue, who has to be named as captain. Misbah-ul-Haq who led Pakistan to victory over New Zealand during test series; he is the front line contender.

Shahid Afridi is leading the team since last year. Before the on going series against New Zealand, several team officials and senior players have opposed Shahid Afridi as Captain.  They were in favor of Misbah as he led Pakistan team first test series victory since 2006.

Pakistan team was dived in to two groups one of them favoring Afridi captaincy and other players are willing to play under Misbah captaincy. Senior players like Inzamam-ul-Haq have openly stated that he is not happy with the PCB decision of not naming the captain of the World Cup squad.

PCB chairman Ijaz Butt has traveled all over to New Zealand, to discuss with the team management. But announced that Shahid Afridi will lead the team and Misbah-ul-Haq will be vice captain. Pakistan has won their first one day series win in more than two years.
