OPRAH WINFREY has revealed that she is glad her TV network launched to successful viewing figures in January. The American TV host gave up her hugely successful daytime talk show to look after her new channel, OWN, which was launched on January 1, 2011, after three years of planning.
The network attracted 13 million viewers during its first three days on air.
Winfrey admitted that she's just thankful she wasn't shamed by a lacklustre public response. "I am grateful we weren't embarrassed and that people came (to watch)," the Daily Star quoted her as saying.
"At this point in my life, I am not trying to get everybody. I am only trying to get the people who want to hear... There is a critical mass of people we haven't found them all, who want different programming," she said.
And Winfrey, often considered to be the most powerful woman on TV said, "It was not until we went on air that I fully started to grasp what it means to have a network where you are the ‘OW’ of the OWN."
"How absolutely extraordinary it is that I can sit in this place with my name on a network, coming from a little town in Mississippi...and growing up without a television," she added.
